  Objective

UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Urban Regions

The establishment UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Urban Regions for NED University of Engineering & Technology was approved by UNITWIN Programme, UNESCO Headquarter in April 2022 and formal agreement was signed on 16 June 2022 at UNESCO Headquarter by the Vice Chancellor of the university Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodi. The university has appointed Prof. Dr. Noman Ahmed, a renowned Town Planner, Architect and Dean Architecture & Management Science, NED University, as the chairholder/network coordinator of the chair.

Objectives

  • Train undergraduate and graduate students to pursue sustainable practices
  • Dedicate the research and projects of students across all disciplines to attain SDG No. 11 make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable by integrating with other SDGs
  • Bring together network of professionals and researchers through conferences, workshops, etc
  • Create awareness in communities through cross coordination with various stakeholders
  • Workshops of the stakeholders in the relevant industries to adopt sustainable practices
  • Training workshops on management and leadership skills in the context of the theme of the proposed chair

Activities of the Chair

  • To promote sustainable practices and SDGs within students via undergraduate courses, post graduate courses, Final Year Projects and Desertions
  • Short-term trainings, courses, workshops for the students of various institutes and professionals from the private and government sectors
  • With the coordination of academic departments, the chair will create awareness within communities regarding its theme through fieldwork and knowledge transfer around the theme of the Chair and SDGs
  • There would be dedicated faculty members to have research on the theme of the Chair. Besides, it will arrange conference on its theme
  • There would be dialogues among keep stakeholders, symposiums, and seminars for relevant stakeholders to make urban areas sustainable. Leadership and management programmes will be a key part of this proposed chair to attain the objectives
